I've never freedived / I'm not a strong swimmer, can I join?

Yes. Many of our students start from scratch. What matters is that you're comfortable in water. Share your situation when you book, so the instructor can adapt from the start.

Yes, when procedures are followed. We keep a 1:4 ratio (1 instructor : 4 students). All instructors are EFR/CPR trained. Your safety is the priority in every session.

I have a history of asthma / ear / sinus issues, can I join?

Talk with us before booking. Some conditions need extra care or a doctor's note. We'll help assess whether the program is a good fit.

What's the minimum age for programs?

Adult courses (Discovery, Wave 1, Wave 2): age 18+. Ages 16–17 need parent/guardian consent. Junior starts at age 4, A (4–7), B (8–11), C (12–15).

How long is the Wave 1 course?

Wave 1 runs over 3 days: 2 pool sessions, 1 ocean session, 2 theory sessions. Each session is about 3–4 hours.

What if I don't pass after the course?

If you don't pass, you can join regular practice with Walena Freedive students. Everyone has their own pace, we support you until you're ready.

About Walena Freedive

Walena Freedive was born from two places that shaped our journey: Makassar, where we teach and grow, and the Selayar Islands, home to our underwater adventures and exploration.

The name Walena is inspired by Walanae, the geological path that connects those two regions, and Whale, a symbol of calm, freedom, and closeness to the ocean.

For us, Walena Freedive is more than a place to learn diving. It is a space to know the ocean safely, build confidence in the water, and create experiences that stay with you.

Here, technique is not the end goal, it is a way to understand your body, mind, and limits more deeply.

Wafiq began scuba diving and freediving in 2019 while studying Marine Science at IPB University. In 2025 he founded Walena Freedive.
